For a 5 day Sicily Itinerary, I recommend Siracusa and Taormina as a base for your trip. Staying more than 2 locations just causes more stress as you lose time checking in and out, etc.

Is 5 Days in Sicily Enough?
In my opinion, five days in Sicily is like sampling just one slice of a delicious Sicilian pizza – it gives you a taste but leaves you craving more! While five days won’t allow you to explore the entire island, it’s enough to scratch the surface and immerse yourself in some of Sicily’s most captivating highlights.
From the bustling streets of Catania to the ancient ruins of Siracusa, the majestic Mount Etna, and the picturesque town of Taormina, this itinerary offers a tantalizing glimpse into Sicily’s rich history, natural beauty, and culinary delights. It’s better than nothing, and trust me, you’ll want to return for more!

Best Time of Year to Visit Sicily
The best time to visit Sicily is during the shoulder seasons of spring (April to June) and autumn (September to October). The weather is pleasantly warm during these months, making it ideal for sightseeing and outdoor activities without the scorching summer heat.
Additionally, these periods offer fewer crowds compared to the peak summer months, allowing you to enjoy the island’s attractions more relaxedly. If you’re a fan of festivals, the Easter celebrations in spring and the grape harvest in autumn are not to be missed.
Best Way to Travel from Catania Airport to Siracusa
Upon arriving at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, the best way to travel to Siracusa is by rental car. Renting a car allows you to explore the island at your own pace and discover hidden gems along the way. The drive from Catania to Siracusa takes about an hour and is straightforward, following the A18 motorway.
Alternatively, if you prefer not to drive, regular bus services from the airport to Siracusa are operated by companies like Interbus. These buses are comfortable and provide a scenic introduction to the Sicilian landscape.

5-Day Sicily Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival in Catania and Transfer to Siracusa
Morning:
- Arrival in Catania: Land at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport.
- Transfer to Siracusa: Pick up your rental car ( we used Sicily by Car) and drive to Siracusa (about an hour’s drive).
Sicily Rental car tips:
When renting a car in Sicily, make sure you check your vehicle thoroughly before leaving the rental car place. Cars in Italy tend to be very scratched, so document it all. Take photos and videos of the vehicle so you are not held liable. I also recommend renting a smaller car because parking in Sicily can be tricky. Last but not least, get the extra insurance, trust me.

Where to stay in Siracusa
When considering the best areas to stay in Siracusa, Sicily, the following neighborhoods and accommodations stand out:
