Ah, Sorrentoโ€”a land where the lemons grow bigger than your travel bucket list, and the views are so stunning, they make even your smartphone camera blush. I had the joy of staying at the lovely Hotel Minerva, and let me tell you, Sorrento is not just a gateway to the Amalfi Coast; it’s a destination all its own.

But enough about the whys; let’s talk about the wheresโ€”specifically, where you should hang your hat (or swimsuit) in this Italian paradise. Lets chat about the best hotels in Sorrento, shall we?

I ended up in Sorrento as I was looking for a cheaper base for Southern Italy. I knew I could do day trips to places like Amalfi Coast and Positano. We found a great deal for a beautiful hotel called Hotel Minerva. It was up on the cliff and ended up being a hike toward the end of our trip, so next time, I would stay in the city center.

Best Areas to Stay in Sorrento Italy

Piazza Tasso/City Center:
Being at the heart of it all has its perksโ€”like stumbling back to your room after too many Limoncellos. If I were to visit again, this is where you’d find me.

This is the best overall area to stay in Sorrento for travelers, especially first-timers due to its prime location in the heart of Sorrento city center. Staying here allows you to be located within walking distance to major attractions, as well as many restaurants, bars, and shops.

It also offers excellent connections to public transport.

Marina Grande
For those who can’t resist the siren call of the sea. Fresh seafood and even fresher airโ€”what more could you want? This is where the best restaurants are located and is one of the two main spots on Sorrento’s seafront.

It has the charm of a traditional fishing village and is a great place to stay if you want to be close to the sea.

The Hills
If you don’t mind a little legwork, the hills offer seclusion and views that’ll make your Instagram followers green with envy.

Piano di Sorrento:
This area is more a sister town to Sorrento and is the best neighborhood for families. Itโ€™s quieter than Sorrento itself, though Sorrento is easily accessible by train.

Whether you’re in for a quickie or planning a long-term relationship with Sorrento, timing is everything. A short stay will let you hit the highlights, but a week-long sojourn lets you truly savor La Dolce Vita.

Depending on how many day trips you would like, I recommend at least 4 days in Sorrento.
