Welcome to Afytos Greece – a stunning paradise with sandy beaches, crystal-clear waters, and a relaxed atmosphere. The Blue Bay Hotel is an undiscovered treasure.

But, before I jump into my personal experiences, let’s check out some cool historical and statistical facts about Afytos Beach.

So, Afytos, also known as Afitos or Athitos, is not your average beach destination. Nope, it’s got history, baby! We’re talking ancient village vibes from the Classical Period.

Think Byzantine and Macedonian influences, with those cute stone houses, narrow streets, and red-tiled roofs that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a time machine.

It’s like history; beach life had a passionate love affair and gave birth to this extraordinary place.

Now, where exactly is this slice of paradise? Afytos Beach is just a breezy 70 kilometers (or 43 miles) southeast of Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city.

Arriving at this destination is easy, whether renting a car, enjoying the beautiful coastal road, or taking public transportation.

Afytos Beach in May

Let’s talk aesthetics, people. Afytos Beach is not your run-of-the-mill sandy spot. This place is jaw-droppingly beautiful.

We’re talking powdery golden sands, dramatic cliffs, and the kind of crystal-clear turquoise waters that make you question if your eyes are playing tricks on you.

And the cherry on top? It’s all surrounded by lush greenery, like a green hug from Mother Nature herself. Swoon!

Afytos Beach is a certified Blue Flag beach, which means it meets high standards of cleanliness, environmental friendliness, and safety. You can enjoy your time here with peace of mind, knowing that you are in good hands.

Getting to Afytos greece

If you are visiting Northern Greece itโ€™s best to rent a car. This will allow you to visit many villages close to Afytos Beach, giving you freedom and saving you time.

We rented a car from Thessonaliki airport, and you can read about it on – The driving in Greece blog post. It was an easy drive to our hotel, Blue Bay Hotel, which is 15 minutes walking distance from Afytos.

Now parking in Afytos Beach during peak season is chaotic. You will basically need to park outside the village and walk over. Since we visited in May and it was sort of cold, we were lucky.

It wasnโ€™t crowded, so we were able to park on the street. If you are staying at Afytos Beach, then ask your hotel or host about parking.

How to Spend Half Day At Afytos Beach

We spent a day at Afytos Beach and here is what we did.

The first thing we did when arriving at Afytos Beach was shop! At the first shop called Gaia, I was so giddy with all the cool findings. We bought our shot glass but also looked around for some more souvenirs.

I also learned more about the famous donkey milk which is super popular for skincare in northern Greece. Watch below and learn more.

I really wish I could have taken more items but our luggage was packed.

We then aimed at finding a pharmacy as my husband’s throat was starting to hurt. I asked a local vendor if there was a pharmacy, and he said yes, only one.

Now the pharmacy looked more like an Apothecary, so itโ€™s kind of cool to visit. Watch the video below to see.

@fusetravels Day three of my work week in Greece of log was jampacked as we visited to nearby villages of our hotel, and also had a massage food and just overall a lovely day. 1. Afythos Village is a Hilltop village totally worth the visit! We did shopping, ouzo taste testing and sat at the market square. 2. Off to Kalatheia Village to find Zeus santuary. 3. Back to Blue Bay Hotel for a wonderful massage ##greecebeyondtheobvious##visithalkidiki##northerngreece##greecevlogs##drivingingreece##tbexpeloponnese##afytoschalkidiki##afytos##kallitheagreece##ammonzeus##halkidikigrecce โ™ฌ Natural Emotions – Muspace Lofi

Then we browsed around some more and I got an awesome hat. We then headed out to the viewpoint walkway we had seen on YouTube videos. The day was cloudy but the view was still so stunning.

It must be magical in the evening so I hope to come back one day and stay longer. We saw this great restaurant on the cliff called Notos and I stopped by for some photos on their flower wall.

Then we headed back to the city center and checked out the church from the outside and decided to sit at the main square for some drinks. I ordered a rose which I didnโ€™t realize til later that it had come in a bottle so it was more like two servings.

I journaled a bit as Max drank some beer. Then we decided to head out as we had other things to do that day, but we stopped by a shop as I saw a very unique shot glass.

I entered the shop and the lovely lady answered my question and I saw she had some olives and bread we could taste. I asked her about Ouzo and she was like we have a whole tasting downstairs.

She invited us down and we were in for such a treat. If you are visitikng Afytos beach, this is a must stop!
